The group for people who eat primarily from two food groups: fruits and vegetables. Vegetarians typically focus calories strictly on fruits, vegetables and grains (mostly whole grains). The Vegetarian diet is high in micronutrients (vitamins/minerals) within these groups but can be deficient in B12 and the fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K). You may see overlap into meat products such as dairy and eggs. Vegetarians who incorporate fish and seafood are commonly described as Pescetarian.

Animal welfare is often a strong consideration for vegetarians as is the impact of industrial meat farming on natural habitat and ecosystems.

Soy is a popular protein substitute for meat and meat protein.

Many vegetarians focus on organic, fresh fruits and vegetables and eliminate processed foods such as high-fructose corn syrup, additives/preservatives and artificial sweeteners.
